It’s game day! The 1-1 Eagles look to take on the 1-0-1 Lions.
For the Lions, this is the first time they have started a season undefeated since 2017. They look to extend to 2-0-1 through Kerryon Johnson, Marvin Jones, and Kenny Golladay. Unfortunately for them, the Eagles run defense is ranked 5thin the league, letting up only 42.5 yards per game. That doesn’t go over well for Kerryon Johnson.
For the injury-stricken Eagles, they will most likely be without wide receivers Alshon Jeffrey and DeSean Jackson. After last week’s performance at the receiver position, it is safe to say that there are some questions surrounding this receiving group. Will Nelson Agholor be able to carry them again? Although last game, he dropped what could have been the game winning touchdown pass late in the 4th quarter, Agholor played a good game. He did put up 8 catches for 107 yards and a touchdown. J.J. Arcega-Whiteside will need to step up without Alshon here today. He plays a very similar style compared to Alshon both being huge red zone targets and being able to go up for the ball while being covered. Look for JJ to have a big day today.
Overall, this game may be a little closer than people originally thought it would be opening up the season. Matt Stafford usually throws for a lot of yards per game and the Eagles defense hasn’t been able to stop the pass so far this year. If the Eagles want to be a contender again, they need to win the games they are supposed to win though, no excuses. In 2017 they did exactly that and look where it got them.
